Murphy's Transfer Deadline Day

After a wonderful eventful day, where Fernando Torres disappeared and Luis Suarez and Roy Carroll came in, I'm quite pleased. Incredibly sad to see Torres go, but no one is bigger than the club and I trust that Kenny Dalglish has found good replacements for us!

Kenny Dalglish has made Charlie Adam one of his top two targets to bring to Anfield this month, and it looks like he is going to succeed on both fronts. The news is that Andy Carroll has been secured, and now he can turn his attention to Blackpool’s Adam...

16.38: Ah. I'm told there is no truth in the 'Charlie Adam to Man Utd' rumours. Apparently, Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston is refusing to answer calls from Liverpool about the Scotland midfielder... maybe that United story started when Kenny Dalglish phoned up pretending to be Sir Alex Ferguson instead?

Is this Liverpool's Torres replacements?

It seems inevitable, if Chelsea do table £50m, or possibly a smaller amount with Nicolas Anelka included, Fernando Torres will go to the London club.

But who will Liverpool get to replace him, in a last gasp attempt to strengthen the squad?

A player that has been om the radar for some time is FC Utrechts Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and a report claims Liverpool will use some of the cash from the potential sale of Torres to finance a move for the long-term target.

The FC Utrecht hitman has 11 goals in the Eredivisie this term, outstripping the seven scored by Liverpool's latest recruit Luis Suarez. Standing 6' 1", van Wolfswinkel would provide a different threat to that of the Uruguayan. 

With cash in their pocket and little time to negotiate, Liverpool will have to pay around the £14m mark to make the deal go through before 11pm on Monday.

Another name that is mentioned this weekend, is Senegal international Mamadou Niang, who admits he is flattered by links with Liverpool, amid strong speculation the Reds are preparing to swoop for the Fenerbahce attacker. 

The 31-year-old Senegal international has been in fine form for Fener this season, scoring nine league goals in 15 matches, and various reports in Africa suggest Kenny Dalglish has made him a transfer target, Sky Sports Report.

Niang, formerly of Troyes, Strasbourg and Marseille, says it would be a privilege to play for Liverpool but claims he is still bound to his current club.

Niang, who can play as either a striker, support striker or winger, moved to Fenerbahce for €8million (£6.9m) in August from Marseille.

New development in the Torres situation

Chelsea are reported to be ready for a £100m splurge on the transfer market, starting with the acquisition of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

Duncan Oldham of KopTalk today claims to know that Torres has repeated his desire to leave Liverpool.

The Spanish striker is trying to force a move to Chelsea but the club has told both him and Chelsea that they will not allow him to leave this weekend unless our demands are met.

If the demands are not met, Torres will be forced to stay at Anfield until the summer.

Oldham also claims to be in regular contact with his sources at the club who tells him the player's agent was at Melwood today, well before the striker turned in.

Talks are due to take place this afternoon. Liverpool officials will try and smooth things over but at the same time they are not going to pussyfoot around, Duncan writes on KopTalk.

Dalglish convinces Torres to stay?

The Fernando Torres saga continues, with new speculations coming all the time. He did not show up to this mornings first training session with the squad at Melwood, but is said to be joining his team mates later today, now being in talks with club officials.

Kenny Dalglish said that 'My next managerial challenge on the pitch comes against Stoke City at Anfield on Wednesday night'.

If we read 'between the lines', he has a big challenge also off the pitch.

Now former Liverpool midfielder Terry McDermott has told talkSPORT he believes Kenny Dalglish can convince Torres to stay at Anfield.

The Huddersfield Town assistant manager is confident the Reds boss can talk round the Spanish striker who had a written transfer request turned down on Friday.

But, he also concedes that if Torres’s mind can’t be changed he should be sold to Chelsea and not kept at the club against his will.

- With Kenny’s powers of persuasion I think we might find he might stay. I can understand where Torres is coming from but when you’ve got Kenny Dalglish [talking] in your ear, saying ‘we don’t want you to go’, it’s a bit tempting for him to stay, McDermott said.

- I hope he does, certainly until the summer and then take it from there. But I think if Kenny wasn’t there he’d definitely be going.”

However, McDermott also feels if Dalglish is unsuccessful and Torres still wants to leave, the club should let him, as his presence in the dressing room will be disruptive if he is kept against his will.

New club enters race to sign Torres?

It looks more and more likely that Fernando Torres by Tuesday no longer will be a Liverpool player.

His timing is terrible, but if he has desided to go, let's get the most out of it!

The latest reports say that Manchester City are set to blow Chelsea out of the water with a megabucks bid for the striker .

TFOAR has learned from it's sources that the LFC board last night recieved a player plus cash offer from City that is just too good to be refused.

There are not many details of the offer, but sources claims that the deal would effectively value Torres at £75m. 

It seems however that Torres has wanted to leave our club for more than one year!

Now The News of the World claims that the World Cup winner has harboured hopes of a move away from his current club since December, 2009.

The Blues are reported to have made a £25m approach last summer after Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League, but nothing came of it then.

However, it is thought that things have changed now since their absence from Europe's top club competition could stretch by another year owing to an underwhelming campaign so far.

According to The Mirror, the Spain international also informed his skipper Steven Gerrard of his desire to leave the club, prior to handing in a transfer request, Goal.com claims.

If the Chelsea deal should go through, Liverpool wants Nicolas Anelka to come the other way.

Still in Charlie Adam negotiations?

No wonder Blackpool and Ian Holloway are stalling on the proposed move for Charlie Adam to Liverpool...

Liverpool Facebook fan-page True Kopites We Are The Reds tonight tweeted:

'We still havent come to a settlement with blackpool for Charlie Adam....we are still in negotiations with them even though we said we would pull the plug after they rejected our most recent offer believed to be around 7 million...'

But what may become the conclusion of this saga is that Ian Halloway is the real bad guy.

It has emerged that Ian Holloway can make personal profit if Charlie Adams is indeed sold by Blackpool to the likes of Liverpool. Giving him a good reason for pressing the price as high as possible.

- I do get rewarded with anybody I coach and make a profit on. My chairman looked at my record of producing players and helping players and selling them on and he wanted that at Blackpool, Holloway said.

Earlier, Charlie Adams father has branded Blackpool 'cheap-skates' after the second Liverpool bid was rejected.

New twist in Torres saga

This weekend will be ravaged by the speculations surrounding Fernando Torres and his unsure future on Merseyside.

The latest report say that Liverpool are negotiating with Chelsea over a £50m bid but want Nicolas Anelka included in the deal, instead of earlier reported Daniel Sturridge.

Contrary to Liverpool's public stance that Torres is not for sale, the club is willing to negotiate with the Londoners. 

They fear the negative consequences of keeping a player who has publicly revealed his desire to move on, Goal.com reports.

Torres submitted a written transfer request on Friday night which was rejected by Liverpool. But that has not deterred Chelsea from making a second offer for the Spaniard of £40m in cash plus Daniel Sturridge, the England Under-21 striker.

With Torres, 26, pushing both clubs to negotiate over a move before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday, Liverpool have asked for Frenchman Anelka, not Sturridge, to be included in the deal to meet their £50m valuation.

Anelka is considered a proven goalscorer who can slot into the Liverpool side immediately and a more suitable partner for Luis Suarez, who is on Merseyside to complete a £22.8m switch from Ajax.

Anelka spent a loan spell at Anfield in the 2001-02 season and could be open to a return as Torres' arrival would cast doubt over the 31-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is determined to complete a deal for the World Cup winner, who he also tried to sign last summer but was rebuffed by the Merseyside club.

Latest Torres rumours + Final Adam offer

It's quite odd that Liverpool FC have landed in this situation with FernandoTorres. 

Earlier he has stated his love for the club, saying things like 'I would not like to play for another English or Spanish club. This feeling is very important to me.'

In August Torres publicly committed himself to Liverpool Football Club. He said: 'My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.

However, a report said Chelsea wanted to make Torres their best paid player ever, if he made the move to London. And the Sky Sports betting had slashed the odds on Torres going to Chelsea before Monday to 1/5.

Liverpool then confirmed that Torres Friday evening submitted a transfer request. But the request was rejected.

'Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool. Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement, the Club statement said.

According to Liverpool FC |fan page| - News and Speculations, there is a minimum fee release clause written into Torres' contract. But there is a clause to the clause stating that we dont have to accept bids from home rivals. The club have sent representatives to Spain to negotiate a transfer for Torres with Barca. BUT, if Chelsea where to offer 65m, then the club are prepared to accept.

Tony Evans, The Times’ Football Editor, has told talkSPORT that he believes Fernando Torres will move to Chelsea in this transfer window.

Later a rumour started doing the rounds on the net, saying Torres is set to withdraw his transfer request and commit to LFC. Apparently Steven Gerrard and  Kenny Dalglish last night was talking to him, and he is now 60-40 in favour of staying and signing new deal.



When it comes to the other main transfer taret for Liverpool in this window - Charlie Adam, Blackpool have been branded 'cheapskates' for turning down Liverpool's latest offer for him down, by the player's father, Click Liverpool reports.

The father claims that the improved bid tabled by the Reds this week, believed to be in the region of £6million, is more than an acceptable offer for the Scotland international.

Adam handed in a transfer request to the Seasiders in a bid to help force his move to Anfield through but their chairman Karl Oyston and manager Ian Holloway are standing firm, prompting his father to launch a stinging attack on the Barclays Premier League newcomers.

- I don’t even think this is about money. It’s because Charlie took them to a tribunal over the bonus they owed him. This is their pay-back. They are saying ‘you won’t make anything out of this, we have got you under contract’, he's saying.

- Liverpool’s offer is 13 times what Blackpool paid for Charles. And they are turning it down? They have been more than compensated for him already.

- Mr Oyston has got to realise it is somebody’s life and future that he is dealing with here. I think it is petty. This should be a time for common sense to prevail.

Today it became clear that also Gerard Houllier will launch a bid for Adam in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.

The latest on the Adam saga is that Liverpool are ready to make one final offer for the Scotsman.

Another player that looked destined to leave, is Milan Jovanovic.

But now he is set to stay at Liverpool after turning down a transfer to Wolfsburg, the Metro reports.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Leeds goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Danish stopper has been attracting plenty of plaudits for his performances in the Championship this season and, according to the Daily Mail, he has caught the eye of Liverpool.

Former Manchester City 'keeper, Schmeichel, began to fulfil his potential with Notts County last season and did enough to earn himself a transfer to Leeds in the summer. And now he could be set to move back to the Barclays Premier League if Liverpool step up their reported interest, GiveMeFootball reports.

However, the idea of Liverpool splashing out £6 million on a no.2 goalie appears to be remote - even for one with the potential of 24-year-old Schmeichel.

Another name that might be on for the summer is Roma striker Mirko Vucinic.
Liverpool are reportedly frontrunners to sign him in the summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Reds are 'strong favourites' for the 27-year-old, although Roma remain unwilling to sell during the January transfer window - but they have received bids for his services.

When asked about the reported interest of Liverpool, Vucinic's agent Alessandro Lucci said:

- The club have stated he is not for sale. Although we have received some bids the club will not be considering any offers. At the end of the season we will make a decision on his future.

Valued at €25 million by transfermarkt.co.uk, Vucinic is one the most highly-regarded forwards in Europe and it would be a major coup if Liverpool could land him in the summer.

Anelka + Cash for Torres?

Even though an official Liverpool FC statement today says 'Torres is not for sale', and a club spokesman said 'Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down. The player is not for sale', the rumours about Fernando Torres possibly going to Chelsea won't go away.

First Spanish football writer Guillem Balague said 'Torres wants Liverpool to keep negotiating with Chelsea.There's NO buyout clause. Four days to go before a POSSIBLE exit of the striker'.

Duncan 'Dunk' Oldham of KopTalk tonight said on Facebook: Source of mine 'worried' about Torres talk. Chelsea confident, Liverpool worried. This is not someone up the ladder though but still in a good position to pass on the mood. At this time, I can honestly say I have no idea what's going on. Talk of Anelka + cash *if* something goes down. Told Kenny doesn't want him to leave at any price. Players don't think he will jump.

LFC fan Brian Durand tweeted: Tony Evans, Times is on Talksport now. Torres leaving very very soon. Via Tony Barrett. Torres told LFC by phone he wants to leave.

A die hard LFC supporter said: 'Just seen Torres outside Melwood, he says he is committed to the club...That's all he said. he signed an autograph and shook my hand'.

Finaly, The Chelsea Blog tonight is saying 'The latest word from The Times is that Fernando Torres has handed in a transfer request to Liverpool FC in light of the continued interest from Chelsea. CFC have met this news with an offer of £40m plus Daniel Sturridge'.

Welcome, Luis!

Today, finaly Luis Suarez became a Liverpool player. There are only formalities left, before he has a medical and signs a deal, tying him to Anfield.

'Liverpool Football Club announced this afternoon that they had agreed a fee of up to 26.5million Euros with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suarez, subject to the completion of a medical', the club's official announcement say.

Liverpool was finaly given permission by Ajax to discuss personal terms with the player and his representatives.

Adam Liverpool move back on?

It seems the Luis Suarez transfer deal again has broken down. Liverpool and Ajax has again failed to reach an agreement, and Suarez feels cheated by his club.

- Now I have a very small motivation to play for Ajax, Suarez says.

However talks between the two clubs are said to still be ongoing, and this saga is probably not over just yet.

Rumours elsewhere say Ajax has set a new Saturday deadline, with a @21,5m price tag. Other rumours speculating in that Suarez will become a Liverpool player by Friday - that he will sign friday morning.

When it comes to Charlie Adam, his Anfield dream could still be on thanks to other moves for Chelsea, Fulham and Blackpool.

The player wants to leave, having handed in a transfer request at the start of the week, but the Tangerines and Ian Holloway are staying strong as they hold out for a fee that they believe Adam’s merits warrant - £12m.

According to GiveMeFootball Chelsea’s Gael Kakuta completed his loan switch to Fulham which could pave the way for Zoltan Gera to move north to Blackpool, which in turn could make way for Charlie Adam’s long-awaited transfer to Anfield.

If the Adam transfer fails to happen, Liverpool could make a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar.

According to The Daily Mirror, Werder Bremen are interested in the Croatian, but the player himself wants to continue plying his trade in the Premier League.

It is thought that he would like to play for the Reds, who are currently interested in Blackpool midfielder Adam, Goal.com claims.

However, it has been reported that the situation could very well change if they are unable to land the Seasiders' skipper, with Spurs outcast Kranjcar lined up as a backup option.

And, if the Suarez deal does not go through, Liverpool will switch their attention to Bolton's Johan Elmander.

Reds owner John W Henry is refusing to be held to ransom and is busy making contingency plans if the Suarez transfer does not take place.

Elmander has been on the Merseyside club's list after an excellent start to the campaign saw him nine goals for Wanderer's. A downturn in fortunes for Owen Coyle's team that has seen them take just one point from the last 15 available has coincided with the goals drying up for the Sweden international.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, though, has seen enough in the 29-year-old's game to convince him that he is of sufficient calibre to perform capably at Anfield, Sportingo claims.

And with his contract at the Reebok Stadium due to expire at the end of the season, Elmander would cost a fraction of his market value – around £2.5m.

A transfer that seems to be likely to happen, is Paul Konchesky to Fulham. It is reported that the two clubs held talks over the full-back last night when the Cottagers visited Anfield.

This may open the door to a return for Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock.

Should Konchesky leave Anfield, Liverpool's interim manager Kenny Dalglish will take Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock on loan for the rest of the season, The Daily Mail reports.

According to The FootballTransferTavern Wolfsburg manager Steve McClaren has offered £6m for Liverpool flop Milan Jovanovic.

McClaren has targeted Liverpool’s Jovanovic, a player who has failed to make a decent impression at Anfield since joining on a free transfer in the summer.

Serie A sides Fiorentina and Genoa have also been rumoured to have an interest, but Wolfsburg are cash happy and can afford to ‘go for the kill’ on more or less whoever they target.

Looking on to the next transfer window - Sport.co.uk understands that Galatasaray captain Arda Turan looks set to be made available in the summer following a number of enquiries during the January transfer window according to the player’s chief representative.

The Premier League quartet of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been perennially linked with the 23-year-old playmaker who has performed well in a poor campaign for Galatasaray thus far which sees the Lions sitting in seventh place in the SPORTTOTO SuperLig.

Liverpool to find winger compromise?

As it stands now, it does not look like there will be any transfer for either Luis Suarez or Charlie Adam.

Earlier today, with a tung-in-cheek comment, Ajax manager Frank de Boer warned the value of the striker is increasing by up to £5million a day and told Liverpool they have until January 29 to force through a deal to sign Luis Suarez. 

Suarez reportedly had a plan to convince Ajax to reduce their £30m asking price, but it seems the player has been offered a loyalty bonus if he snubs Liverpool this month.

But, according to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool has 'slammed the door shut' on negotiations for both Suarez and Adam. Liverpool bid £12.7m and £4.5m for them respectively, but each's current club was asking for more than double those numbers.

However, another report says that Charlie Adam looks almost certain to be at Liverpool before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday. Anfield looks to be his most likely destination at 4/11 odds with betting company Boylesports.com, the report says.

So, if there's going to be any players coming in at all, who will it be, then?

Right now the hottest tip is Charles N'Zogbia coming in to replace Ryan Babel. The fee was according to Click Lancashire thought to be in the region of £8m, which would be a fare price for all concerned.

But now, according to The People, Wigan have slapped a £15million price tag on the French winger, with Liverpool only willing to pay half that figure but still hopeful of finding a compromise.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish made a personal check on N’Zogbia during Wigan’s draw with Fulham last weekend.

The Anfield club’s move for the Wigan star has been driven by Stretford and his business partner, former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, the paper reports.

A name that again is back is Lacina Traore. Liverpool are reportedly ready to make their move for him if as the Luis Suarez saga continues to rumble on.

With Liverpool desperate for striking reinforcements in January, they could be forced to set their sights elsewhere in pursuit of more potent attacking options, GiveMeFootball say.

One of their reported targets is FC Cluj frontman Lacina Traore who, according to talkSPORT, could be available to Liverpool for €12 million. And now, Sport.co.uk understands, that Liverpool are indeed monitoring the Ivorian striker.

A new name on the radar: Manchester United will reportedly battle Liverpool over the signature of Lyon's Michael Bastos at the end of the season, Sportingo claims.

With the Red Devils increasingly resigned to losing Patrice Evra in the summer – most likely to Real Madrid – plans are being made for the acquisition of his replacement.

However, they will face competition from arch-rivals Liverpool who are desperate to find a top class player for what has become a problem position for them. Paul Konchesky's career at Anfield appears to be already over after a series of calamitous displays following his summer move from Fulham while Fabio Aurelio is not rated by manager Kenny Dalglish. This has seen the out-of-form Glen Johnson deployed in an unfamiliar role, highlighting a clear need for specialist in that part of the field.

Bastos has impressed for Lyon in the Champions League this season and the Ligue 1 side are reluctant to sell him on the cheap with opening bids likely to be at around the £22m mark.

Liverpool still in Suarez negotiations?

It looks as if Liverpool this transfer window have to let go of three offensive players:

Nathan Eccleston who now is on loan at Charlton Athletic, David Amoo who has joined MK Dons on loan and Ryan Babel who has ended up in Hoffenheim, sold for about £6m.

If Milan Jovanovic also disappears from Anfield during the month, Liverpool may end up with a strike force who consists of just Fernando Torres, David N’gog and Spanish youngster Dani Pacheco, with the option of using Dirk Kuyt up top if needed.

And, speaking of Jovanovic...

According to Goal.com German side Wolfsburg are believed to have put forward an offer of €7 million to acquire his services.

The 29-year-old put in impressive performances for Standard Liege and moved to Merseyside on a free transfer, but has since been unable to replicate his form for the Reds.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow man has in the past expressed a desire to trudge on and fight for a regular spot in the club's starting line-up, but his agent has admitted that he could be on his way out.

In desember he pledged his future to Liverpool and promised to stay and fight for a place in the Liverpool team.

Anyway, it seems inevitable Liverpool is going to need strengthening the Anfield striking force. It is going to be a test of the ambitions John W. Henry and NESV.

However, Ajax seems to stand firm over the Luis Suarez situation.

It has gone very quiet, but rumours surfacing on the net today is saying the striker might hand in a transfer request, that Damien Comolli still is in Amsterdam, and that negotiations are still ongoing.

Some has even suggested that Dirk Kuyt might be wanted to go the other way, back to Holland and Ajax.

Also De Telegraaf today say Liverpool has not given up the transfer, still having hopes for a deal to be struck.

A transfer that might go through in the summer is for Lille attacker Gervinho.

Now it has emerged that the €14 million-rated forward has attracted the interest of Liverpool – along with Lille teammate Eden Hazard – but any move will be postponed until the summer in order not to disrupt the French club.

Speaking on French television show Les Specialistes, Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli said: - We want a forward because we lack pace and penetration on the flanks, he said GiveMeFootball report.

- Gervinho and Hazard are super players but I know the Lille board well and they won't sell in January.

However, Liverpool are still reportedly amongst the frontrunners for Gervinho when he becomes available, although he has stated his intention to remain with Lille for the short-term at least.

Elsewhere, it looks like Liverpool January target Mark van Bommel has left Bayern Munich to join AC Milan.

The 33-year-old had been linked with a move to Liverpool but has opted to move to Italy and sign for the Serie A giants, Talksport report.

Bayern agreed to terminate van Bommel’s contract six months early to allow the tough-tackling midfielder to make the move.

Greek defender on the radar + Suarez / Adam update

Update on the Suarez saga. Adam hands in transfer request.  Liverpool considering teenage Greek defender? No bid for Wigan winger? Italian international defender for the summer?

Things start to happen really quickly in Liverpool's 'transfer department'... 

Damien Comolli today flew out to Amsterdam to try finalice a transfer for Luis Suarez from Ajax to Liverpool. Dutch newspaper Het Parool reported that Comolli had left after failing to negotiate a deal – €30m is the reported asking price from Ajax.

Later on De Telegraaf reported that Suarez was looking to speak to his agent Pere Guardiola in an attempt to reignite a move to Liverpool. 

Then The Guardian said that Liverpool are £7M off Ajax’s valuation of £25M, with the Reds only going as high as £18M. 

Sources has later, however said this saga is far from over, with Tony Barret of the Times tweeting 'Lots of conflicting reports on Suarez. Can see this one turning into the transfer saga of the January window' and Rory Smith of the Daily Telegraph saying 'Not sure. Conflicting reports. Definitely glad I hedged my bets a little. Never say anything on telly, that's my advice' on Twitter. 

According to the Liverpool Echo Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam has handed in a transfer request. 

Manager Ian Holloway revealed that three clubs had made unsuccessful bids for the player - Aston Villa, Birmingham and latterly Liverpool.

But Adam is now keen to move on and his agent Kenny Moyes said: 

- I can confirm Charlie has handed in a transfer request. The club has however rejected the request.

Liverpool are reportedly considering a bid for teenage Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The Schalke centre back has been earning rave reviews in Germany after signing from Olympiakos in the summer, and Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch the player's progress.

Reports in Germany claim Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea have also sent representatives to take a closer look at the player, who is set to be sold by the Bundesliga outfit amidst financial troubles at the club, GiveMeFootball claims.

A Greek U17, U19 and U21 international, Papadopoulos is seen as a rising star of Greek football who is tipped to become a full international for his country.

Liverpool will hope to use compatriot Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who impressed at Anfield before injury lost him his place in the first team, in an effort to persuade the player that his future home could be on Merseyside.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's long-time link to Wigan attacker Charles N'Zogbia appeared to be manifesting itself over the weekend, with the club linked to negotiations to bring the French international to Anfield.

Wigan were reported to have wanted £15 million ($24 million) for their star player, with Liverpool supposedly only offering half of that amount.

According to manager Roberto Martinez, however, those negotiations never happened, calling it "a lie".

Thereafter, he called the rumors complements to his players and was dismissive of any moves occurring, reports TeamTalk.com.

- It's a compliment when you've a team chasing you that would love to have you in their squad.

- It's speculation, but it's positive. When you go into a game on the back of a defeat and you read someone wants you, it's a great lift.

Liverpool defender target Davide Santon is being linked with a summer exit from Inter Milan.

The Italian international is thought to be on the radar of a number of Barclays Premier League clubs, with Liverpool chief Kenny Dalglish one of those taking a keen interest in the player, GiveMeFootball report.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Spurs have also been linked with the player, dubbed the ‘next Paolo Maldini’, and the player’s agent confirmed that whilst a move is unlikely this month, it could be a different story in the summer.

- I think it is really difficult for the player to move during the January transfer window particularly with the new coach (Leonardo) joining Inter, Renzo Contratto told Sport.co.uk.

- It is difficult now but in the summer a move is a possibility.
