Comolli's £80m wish list

With Gerard Houllier coming to Anfield monday talent-spotter Damien Comolli seems to have a desire to re-start the Liverpool French revolution.

On top of his wish list for January there are four Frenchmen.
Comolli, the new director of football strategy charged with helping boss Roy Hodgson recruit new stars, has been assembling a hit-list of transfer targets for the January window and next summer – with four Frenchmen on the radar.

And heading the wish list of French stars are four of Laurent Blanc’s side who outplayed England in their 2-1 friendly win at Wembley last month.

Yann M’Vila, Rennes’ 20-year-old midfielder, Marseilles striker Loic Remy – 24 next month – Lille centre-back Adil Rami, 25 later this month, and St Etienne attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet, 23, have all been identified by Comolli as viable targets, The People reports.

And with Lille’s exciting £20million Belgian winger Eden Hazard plus Borussia Dortmund’s £15m-rated Serbian central defender Neven Subotic also a priority, all of Comolli’s targets would cost a staggering £80m.

That would be an immediate test of Kop owner John Henry’s commitment to Anfield’s future. Comolli has been told by Henry to nab players in their early 20s as Liverpool build for a brighter future.

But he’ll have his work cut out to land them all – especially Hazard, who is being tracked by Real Madrid.

Boss Hodgson has been told he must offload some players to raise additional transfer funds and England defender Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Ryan Babel and Fabio Aurelio will all be made available, the paper reports.

  1. You know who should also be made available? Konchesky and Poulsen, hey-ooohhh!

    I'm being serious here.

Just wanted to say that I find your blog to be very informative. While I don't expect very many transfers I do appreciate your efforts to highlight the potential targets.

    YNWA.

  3. I don't understand how we can get rid of Glen Johnson & Ryan Babel when we still have Poulsen, Lucas, Konchelsky, Aurelio etc.

We should be buying Loic Remy, Bryan Ruiz, Eden Hazard,Fabio Coentrao, Arda Turan, Steven Dafour, Ashley Young, Garreth Bale, Andy Caroll, Dante (St Leige) Alex Song & Maybe Giovani Dos Santos then we are set ... for years!

  4. I think we should hold on to Glen Johson, if he wants to stay. Ryan Babel can move on, he's got his chances. Lucas I think is a great player in the making, finaly showing his potential. Konchesky is an ok squad player - Aurleio too... ;)

  5. Murphy I think I should have put my email address there it is traymondt@gmail.com ... I am shocked at how everyone says we can keep Lucas yet they slate Babel. Lucas has been ok this season granted & as a Red I want everyone to do well when they wear the lieverbird on their chest but don't you find it shocking that Babel only plays 5 minute cameos once in 15 matches or so. Imagine if Rafa had given Babel chance afetr chance like Lucas ditto Woy ... by now he would have been WC. This boy at 19 scored 10 goals in his 1st season coming from a different league that is more than twice what CR7 did in his first season!!! Now before U laugh at me for comparing him to CR7 ... I am merely showing how difficult it is to achieve such a feat in your 1st season. Babel should have been given the chance to build on that but no he gets a cold manager who breaks his confidence & crazy fans who fail to back him yet Lucas (who to me) bar this season was the worst player to ever wear the red. So why does Babel get slated so much? If you only played once in 6 months, as a 89th minute sub how would you feel confidence wise? Maybe for Ryan Babel's sake he should leave LFC but I feel we have destroyed his career imagine if he had chosen Arsenal over us? How is this going to impact the team's reputation when promising talent is aproached by liverpool & other clubs?

  6. I agree, but just partly. Babel has been given lots of chances, but never shown any real brilliance. Okey, I agree that Lucas has been given more playing time, but I do think he's a bigger talent in his position than what Babel has shown on the wing, or as a striker. I belive we should let Babel go...
