Liverpool interest in German striker confirmed

Today has been a fairly quiet day on the transfer front. But Liverpool legend Ian St John today insists that his old club must strengthen if they are to arrest their domestic decline.

Ahead of the Liverpool-Everton derby there are a few rumours on the radar ...
Liverpool have been advised to invest in Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling by one of their former players.

Former Reds defender Glenn Hysen has spoken of how his former boss Kenny Dalglish should sign Kiessling, as he believes the Germany international would be 'exactly what Liverpool need'.

And according to German newspaper Bild, the player's representative, Ali Bulut, said: - Milan, Liverpool, Schalke 04 and Rubin Kazan have asked for the player in the recent weeks, TribalFootball report.

The 26-year-old has been recently ruled out with injury, but made his return against Borussia Dortmund, scoring the consolation goal in their 3-1 defeat.

Last season, he was prolific, scoring 21 goals in 35 games and finishing the second highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga; he has already notched up four in seven for this season.

Liverpool will make a bid for the player during the January transfer window, i we are to believe KopSource.

One of the more surprising rumours is about former Liverpool youngster
Stephen Warnock.

The Dail Mail claims he is poised to return to Liverpool after accepting he has little future at Aston Villa.

The England left-back has lost his place in the Villa first team and manager Gerard Houllier has indicated he is free to leave.

Blackburn Rovers were keen to sign the 29-year-old but it now seems that his destination will be Liverpool, reports the paper.

The Reds have asked to take Warnock on loan for the rest of the season and the player has apparently been told he can move to Anfield.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish views Warnock, who began his career with the Reds, as the answer to his team's left-back problem.
